Underneath the look of Rio de Janeiro's notable Christ the Redeemer statue — which towers over the city on Corcovado Mountain — you'll discover Tijuca National Park, one of the biggest urban rainforests on the planet. Between its 30 cascades and popular mountain tops (counting Pedra Bonita, Pedra da Gavea and Pico da Tijuca), there's no deficiency of amazing sights.
Shockingly, for such a lavish woodland, Tijuca is really synthetic. The land was once part of the Atlantic Rainforest, yet was chopped down and redeveloped by industrialists. In the nineteenth century, trees were replanted to secure the city's water supply.
